United Airlines charges $25 for the first checked bag, $35 for the second checked bag and $100 for each additional checked bag as of April 2015. On some international routes, the fee for three or more bags may be $200 per bag. Passengers are permitted one free carry-on bag.
Checked bags must weigh no more than 50 pounds. Bags weighing 51 to 70 pounds incur an additional $100 fee, while passengers must pay a $200 fee for bags weighing 71 to 100 pounds. The maximum size for checked bags is 62 linear inches, including wheels and handles. United Airlines charges a $100 fee for oversize bags. The fees for overweight and oversize bags may be higher on some international routes.
