Where Is Africa Located in the World?

Africa is located south of the Mediterranean Sea and Europe with the Indian Ocean to the southeast and the Atlantic Ocean to the west. The country of Africa is the second largest continent on the planet, with only Asia being bigger.

The population of Africa accounts for approximately 14 percent of the entire world’s population. There are 54 individual countries that come together to make the continent of Africa. Two of the most well-known land features exist in Africa: the Nile river and its basin and the Sahara desert. The Sahara is the world’s largest non-arctic desert and is almost as big as the country of China all on its own.
