What Years of the Honda Odyssey Have Transmission Recalls?
Honda has issued a transmission recall for the Odyssey model years 2002 through 2004. The 1999 through 2001 model years had an extended warranty because of the transmission, which has expired as of March 2015.
The Honda Odyssey has known issues related to the transmission. The issues started with the 1999 model and continued for the next two years. Honda owners filed a class action suit in 2006 and won, requiring the manufacturer to extend the warranty on those transmissions to 109,000 miles or an additional seven years and nine months. That particular extended warranty is no longer available for those cars.
The 2002 to 2004 models featured transmission troubles related to the oil cooler return line. Since this was a known issue, Honda released a recall on these transmissions. People who own Honda Odysseys in that model range can take the car to the dealership for a new or rebuilt transmission.
Honda owners are continuing to experience transmission problems even with newer vehicles. Many owners get the transmission replaced at the 70,000-mile mark by the Honda dealer. However, transmission failures have been reported as early as at 30,000 miles later. Although, there are no recalls beyond the 2002 to 2004 models.
Edmunds advises Honda Odyssey owners to contact their dealer at first sign of transmission problems, which include a flashing D light in the gauge cluster, a rattling sound from the engine and a check engine light.
