How Do You Write Degrees After Your Name?

When placing degrees after a name, a comma should come after the last name and then the initials for the degrees in order should be included. The major or field of study isn’t specified with the initials for the degree type. Each degree abbreviation except the last should be followed by a comma.

Do the following to place degrees after a name in order.

  1. List bachelor’s degree
  2. A bachelor’s degree should be placed first after the name. Common initials used may include B.A. for Bachelor of Arts and B.S. for Bachelor of Science. Follow the abbreviation with a comma if there are additional degrees to list.

  3. List master’s degree
  4. Next, add the initials for the type of master’s degree. These may include M.B.A. for Master of Business Administration, M.S. for Master of Science or M.A. for Master of Arts. If a doctoral degree follows, add a comma after this abbreviation.

  5. List doctoral degree
  6. Finally, list the initials for the doctoral degree earned, such as Ph.D. for Doctor of Philosophy.
