What Is the World Record for Most Babies Born at One Time?

According to Guinness World Records, eight is the highest number of surviving babies born at one time. The record was set by Nadya Suleman, who delivered six boys and two girls on Jan. 26, 2009 in California.

Suleman, known as the Octomom, underwent in vitro fertilization (IVF) to conceive and gave birth by Caesarean section nine weeks prematurely. As multiple births and related adverse complications have been connected to IVF, the birth of Suleman’s octuplets created a public controversy and initiated an investigation into the health practices of her fertility clinic. Suleman has six other children, making a family total of 14.
