A Maytag top-load washer fails to fill with water for a variety of reasons, including closed water valves, kinked hoses and dirty valve screens, according to the manufacturer. All of these problems are easy to troubleshoot without professional help.
The washer accesses both hot and cold water, so both faucets must be completely open for the machine to operate. The hose that brings water into the washer sometimes becomes bent, which impedes the flow of water. Simply straightening the hose sometimes solves the problem. The inlet hose also has a screen inside that prevents particles from entering the washer, and a dirty screen reduces water flow.
