What Is the Way to Remove Window Chalk?

Car window paint, sometimes referred to as window chalk, can be removed by using soap, water and, if necessary, WD-40 or acetone. People use window chalk to write messages on and otherwise decorate their car windows; writing “Just Married” on the rear window of a car is a common use of window chalk.
There are a number of steps to follow when removing window chalk.
- The first thing to do is use a razor to scrape off as much of the chalk as he or she can. This clears away much of the chalk, making the next steps easier.
- Next, the window should be washed with warm water and soap. If the chalk is water-based, this alone will clean the window, and no further steps need to be taken.
- If the chalk is oil-based, there are two options for cleaning off whatever is left. One can use either WD-40 or acetone. To use WD-40 lubricant to clean the window, a thin layer of it should be applied with a cloth. After 10 to 20 minutes, the paint should have dissolved, and the area can once again be washed with water and soap. This process may need to be repeated. To use acetone, a person should first make sure the area is well ventilated, then put on rubber gloves. Rubbing acetone into the chalk with a dry cloth should make it dissolve right away. Once the oil-based chalk is gone, the window should once again be washed with soap and water.
