What Is the Best Way to Clean Oak Kitchen Cabinets?

The best way for a person to clean oak kitchen cabinets is to use a mild homemade solution, such as vegetable-oil soap and warm water, with a microfiber cloth or a cleaner such as Scott’s Liquid Gold. Cleaners and other cleaning supplies can be found at local grocery or retail stores.

If a person chooses to use a homemade solution, he needs to be sure to keep the solution mild. One part warm water to one part vegetable-oil soap should be used. The solution needs to be applied in the direction of the grain; going against the grain will result in the oak cabinet not being thoroughly cleansed. When finished, the cabinet should be wiped down with a clean cloth that has only water on it; the cabinet should then be left to dry.

If one is using a store-bought cleaning solution, then it’s necessary to follow the instructions on the label. Scott’s Liquid Gold instructs that the formula be wiped on to wood cabinets with a cloth. This formula, as well as other cleaning formulas, is said to do more than just clean the cabinets as it can also remove light wax build-ups, replace lost moisture and lessen the appearance of unsightly scratches. The cabinet will also need to be wiped down with a clean cloth and left to dry.
