Which Vitamins Are Diuretics?

The University of Maryland Medical Center and Mmeade.com explain that vitamin C and vitamin B6 are diuretics. As diuretics, these vitamins help with flushing excess water and water-soluble waste from the body.

Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin, which means the body doesn’t store it, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. Vitamin C is needed for the growth and repair of tissues in all parts of the body. It helps the body make collagen, heal wounds, and repair and maintain bones and teeth. Vitamin C is excreted by the body about eight hours after it is consumed, so this vitamin needs to be replaced regularly. Vitamin C can be obtained through diet and food. Vitamin C plays a role in protecting against heart disease, high blood pressure, the common cold, cancer, osteoarthritis, age-related macular degeneration, pre-eclampsia and asthma.

Mmeade.com explains that B6 acts as a natural, safe diuretic, flushing extra water and water-soluble wastes from the body. The B6 trio helps the nervous system function properly, and it helps nerve impulses transmit properly. A lack of B6 may even shrink immune tissues. This vitamin helps the body produce red blood cells and antibodies, which are proteins that fight off foreign infectious invaders. Vitamin B6 treats the symptoms of premenstrual tension, depression, sore mouth and gums, and even some skin problems.
