How Do I Underline Using My Keyboard?
In most PC word processing programs, you can underline text as you type by pressing keyboard shortcuts. To underline existing text, highlight the text before pressing the keyboard shortcut.
-
Use a keyboard shortcut to start underlining
On a PC, type U while holding down the Control key to start underlining as you type. On a Mac, type U while holding down the Command key.
-
Type your text
Type the text or passage. The characters will appear underlined as you type them.
-
Use the same keyboard shortcut to stop underlining
Press Control-U or Command-U again to turn off underlining.
-
Highlight to apply underlining to existing text
Hold down the Shift key and use the arrow, Home and End keys or the mouse to highlight the text you want to underline. Press Control-U or Command-U to apply the underline. Hit Escape or an arrow key to remove the highlight without accidentally erasing the block of text.
