How Do You Unblock a Private Telephone Number?

Depending on the service provider, dialing *82 before making a call may unblock a number listed as private. This function allows private telephone numbers to call other numbers with settings that block private callers from getting through. After dialing *82, the number’s caller ID information will be able to be viewed by the receiving number.

Having a private number means identifying information from calls will not appear on other caller IDs. Most phone companies charge for this service as it is an additional option account holders can request when establishing their phone line.

Using *82 to unblock a private number does not usually cost a fee, but it only applies to one call. If additional unblocked calls need to be made, *82 must be dialed before each individual call. If this *82 is not effective in unblocking a private number, contacting a representative with the phone line’s service provider will provide detailed actions tailored to that specific account. If callers find they need to unblock their number for numerous calls, removing the private option from their account may be easier than constantly dialing the aforementioned code.
