What Type of Government Does Afghanistan Have?

Afghanistan is ruled by an Islamic republic. The current president of Afghanistan is Ashraf Ghani.

Afghanistan adopted an Islamic republic government after the Taliban lost power in 2001. The country is now governed primarily by Islamic laws. Several countries are ruled this way, including, Iran, Pakistan and Mauritania.

The defeat of the Taliban in 2001 did not stamp out the extremist group. The Taliban continues to threaten the republic government the country has tried hard to build. So far, despite government corruption and continued threats from the Taliban, the Islamic republic government holds strong, trying to make Afghanistan a better place.
