To turn off the child lock on a KitchenAid dishwasher, locate the Energy Saver/Dry button. Press and hold this button for at least four seconds.

Many consumers make the mistake of holding down the cancel button believing that this will solve the problem. However, even though it isn’t terribly user-friendly to know how to turn off the child lock on a KitchenAid dishwasher, once you know the steps to do so, the process is actually very simple.

Once the button has been held for a minimum of four seconds, the child lock indicator light should turn off. If the light is no longer on, then this step worked. If it is still on, repeat the above step but hold the button down for a few more seconds.

Keep in mind that the location or type of button might differ between models, however the step to fix the problem should be the same. On some KitchenAid models, it is the air dry button that must be held for four seconds. In rare cases, this step does not work because the control panel on the unit needs to be replaced. If this is the case, call a repair technician to diagnose the problem further.
