Rest is the most common treatment for a pinched nerve, but neurologists may also recommend physical therapy and medication, according to Mayo Clinic. Surgery may also be used if other methods do not ease the pain.

A physical therapist may work with a patient who has a pinched nerve and teach exercises that are designed to stretch and strengthen the muscles around it, claims Mayo Clinic. Medications, such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, are also commonly recommended to ease the pain from a pinched nerve. If the nerve pain doesn’t go away after several weeks, doctors often recommend surgery to take pressure off of the nerve.
