What Are the Traits of Perseus?

In Greek mythology, Perseus is a hero who is half mortal and half god, courageous and intelligent. Perseus is the son of Zeus and Denae, King Acrisius’ daughter.

King Acrisius locks Denae up to prevent her from having children, because a prophecy said he would be killed by his grandson. However, she and Zeus have a son, Perseus, who represents a greater male destiny since his father is a god.

Perseus goes on a quest to behead Medusa using only a shield, an adamantine sickle, winged sandals, magical bag and helmet of invisibility. Persus cleverly and swiftly maneuvers the spell of the Gorgons and beheads Medusa using his magical tools instead of brute strength. He also kills a sea monster to gain Andromeda’s love and accidentally kills his grandfather with a discus. Perseus also turns King Polydectes to stone to protect his mother from an unwanted marriage.
