Do Tractors Have VIN Numbers and Serial Numbers?

Tractors do have serial numbers, usually printed on a plate on the body of the tractor. Different components of the tractor such as the engine and axle may also have serial numbers, so tractor owners should be sure they locate the correct serial number on their vehicle.

The first three digits of the serial number indicate the year that the tractor was made. Lists of tractor serial numbers usually show the number that corresponds with the first series of tractors made that year. Other tractors made in that year have successively higher numbers, though not greater than the number that corresponds with the next manufacture year.
