The Rheem RPKA-049JAZ heat pump is a 4-ton unit. Rheem heat pumps with 048 or 049 in the model number have a nominal cooling capacity of 48,000 British Thermal Units (BTUs) per hour, which can be used to calculate the heat pump’s tonnage.
Divide the BTUs per hour by 12,000, which is equal to one refrigeration ton (RT). In this case, 48,000 is divided by 12,000 to arrive at 4 RTs. While Rheem RPKA models are no longer in production, parts for these units are still available through the manufacturer and participating heating and cooling vendors.
