Tesla cars are made by Tesla Motors, an American company based in Palo Alto, California. Tesla’s Chief Executive Officer and chairman is the billionaire entrepreneur, Elon Musk, who cofounded PayPal and is the Chief Executive Officer of SpaceX, as of January 2015.
Tesla cars are manufactured at the Tesla factory in Fremont, California. Tesla originally purchased this site from Toyota in 2010. Currently, the Tesla factory employs around 3,000 people. Tesla Motors paid Toyota $47 million for the factory site. The location of the Tesla factory makes it unusual: it is one of the only electric cars built in the United States.
