What Is the Tell City Furniture Company?

The Tell City Chair Co. was a furniture company located in Tell City, Ind. The Tell City Chair Co., founded in 1865, made only chairs for more than 80 years, and the first non-chair product made was a desk.
Eventually, the company made bedroom, living room and dining room furniture and accessories. Initially called the Chair Makers Union, the name changed to Tell City Chair Co. in 1924. The company went out of business in 2011 after 146 years of operation, and William Tell Antiques & Collectibles took over sales and customer service for the company. The town of Tell City was founded in 1858. Tell City is located in southwestern Indiana along the Ohio River.
