How Tall Is a Story?

The height of a single story in a building varies depending on the type of structure, either residential or commercial. The average height of one story in a residential structure is 10 feet, but one story of a commercial building averages 12 feet.

Some stories in a building may be taller than others. Ground-floor-level stories can be 25 feet or more in a commercial building or around 15 feet in a residential or hotel building. If the building is very tall it may contain mechanical floors which may be around 25 feet for commercial buildings and 15 feet for residential buildings.
