The Tab key has a number of different functions, ranging from adding an indentation in a text document to advancing the cursor to the next text box on a form. The Tab key can also be used to advance between clickable items on a Web page.

The Tab key can be used in conjunction with the Alt key to scroll between different open windows or programs on a computer. In addition, when using an Internet browser that has multiple tabs open, the user can depress the Ctrl key and the Tab key at the same time to scroll through the open tabs.
