What Are the Symptoms of a Hernia in Men?

Symptoms of inguinal hernia in men include a bulge on either side of the public bone, discomfort or pain in the groin area, and a feeling of dragging or heaviness in the groin, according to Mayo Clinic. Pressure in the groin and swelling around the testicles are also symptoms.
Lifting or coughing often exacerbates the pain and discomfort in the groin area caused by an inguinal hernia, notes Mayo Clinic. Men also sometimes feel an aching, gurgling or burning sensation near the bulge created by the hernia.
Most protruding hernias recede back into the abdomen with just a push, advises Mayo Clinic. A man who cannot push a hernia back in should seek immediate medical attention, since this indicates a strangulated hernia, which is a medical emergency.
