In the poem “The Road Not Taken,” the two roads in the woods symbolize the choices one makes in life. From descriptions in the poem, the paths are worn about the same, which shows that the choices people make in life are often more random than they think. “The Road Not Taken” was written by Robert Frost and published in 1916.
Robert Frost was born in San Francisco on March 26, 1874. He spent much of his life in New England and Great Britain. Frost has stated that “The Road Not Taken” was written in reference to his friend, Edward Thomas, who would often return from a walk in the woods regretting the paths he did not choose to take. Robert Frost died on January 29, 1963, in Boston.
