Susan Rice, appointed National Security Advisor by President Barack Obama in 2013, is not related to Condoleezza Rice. Both women have ties to Stanford University and have served as diplomats for the U.S. Government.
Susan Rice is a Rhodes Scholar who received a Bachelor’s degree in History from Stanford University, followed by Masters and Doctoral degrees in International Relations from Oxford University. She served as an Assistant Secretary of State under President Bill Clinton beginning in 1997; in 2009, she became the first African-American woman to be appointed U.N. Ambassador to the United States. In September 2014, Chinese Central Television mistakenly posted a picture of Condoleezza Rice when reporting a visit to their country by Susan Rice.
