A commercial seasoned salt or homemade salt-and-spice blend can be substituted for Creole seasoning. To ensure satisfactory results, it is best to add the seasonings gradually to the dish and taste frequently in order to make adjustments.
A simple base for an all-purpose seasoning is a blend of salt, garlic powder, freshly ground black pepper, onion powder, paprika and cayenne pepper. The proportions of these ingredients are selected to suit personal preferences and the particular dish to be seasoned. Other dried herbs and spices, such as oregano, thyme, savory, marjoram, mustard and even curry powder, can also be added or substituted.
