However, they are also caused by straining, childbirth, forceful coughing and seizures. They are often found in people who binge drink.

It is also common in people with a hiatus hernia, a condition in which the stomach pushes its way into the upper chest due to a defect with the diaphragm. The diaphragm is a flat muscle that helps separate the lung from the abdomen.
