What Are the Standard Sizes for Luggage?
Last Updated Mar 28, 2020 10:03:56 AM ET
Carry-on luggage bags are usually between 18 and 22 inches tall, while checked luggage bags are between 23 and 27 inches. Many airlines require carry-on bags to be under 22 by 14 by 9 inches, while checked luggage is usually no bigger than 29 inches and is assessed by weight.
Each airline may have different luggage requirements that should be checked before a flight. Luggage violations may result in extra fees, or the customer may be forced to leave the bag behind. If the trip is short, save some time and consider packing light with a carry-on to avoid having to check luggage.
