The standard size of a queen flat sheet is typically 90 inches by 102 inches for mattresses that are 60 inches by 80 inches in size. A flat sheet is made larger than its mattress counterpart to allow excess fabric to drape the sides of the mattress and fold under to cover.
Specialty sheets fit mattresses of atypical sizes, such as a mattress with an additional mattress pad that adds height to the bed, thus requiring extra fabric to encase it. Queen-size premium mattresses and those used for sleeper sofas, waterbeds and inflatable beds may warrant specialty flat sheets to accommodate differences in dimensions.
