The birthdate of St. Christopher is unknown, but he is thought to have died around 251 A.D. Most of what is known about St. Christopher is based on legend and it is believed that he may not have existed. Therefore, he was dropped form the official Catholic Church calendar in 1969.
Many local churches do recognized St. Christopher. His feast day is celebrated on July 25. He is considered to be the patron saint of travelers based on the meaning of his name, which is “Christ-bearer.” According to legend, St. Christopher carried the Christ child across a river and found him heavy because the child was carrying the “weight of the world.”
