Popular seasonal spring sports in schools across the United States include track and field events, baseball and volleyball, tennis, lacrosse and pool-based sports such as swimming and diving. Golf is becoming increasingly popular, as well as sports that are traditionally played in fall and more commonly in Europe, such as soccer or rugby.
Traditionally, spring sports often take place outdoors as the weather improves following winter.
Spring sports tryouts usually begin sometime in March and the schedule usually runs through June. Fall sports usually begin around this time, and popular fall sports include field hockey and cross country running, as well as cheerleading, an increasingly energetic and competitive sport.
