White owls appear in many different kinds of mythology, most prominently as a messenger of the gods or underworld. The white owl can also be present as a spirit animal, appearing in dreams or everyday life as a sign of things to come.

As a spirit animal, the white owl represents an ability to see past deceit and illusion. It also gives guidance during confusing times and grants the ability to see that which may be hidden to others, including other peoples’ true motives. If white owl is ones spirit or power animal, keep in mind that the owl is an animal that can see in the dark. This ability transfers spiritually to users, allowing them to see beyond what others perceive.

In Celtic mythology, the owl is associated with the Crone personality of the Goddess and serves as a guide through the Underworld. If an owl appeared in the window of someone, it was seen as an omen of impending danger or death of a friend or loved one. If someone in the house was ill, it was believed that the owl was there to carry the soul into the underworld after death. In Greek mythology, the white owl is associated with the goddess Athena. Ancient Romans believed that one would tell all of their secrets if the feather of an owl was placed on their pillow while sleeping.
