What Are the Specifications for an 801 Ford Tractor?
The Ford 801 Tractor is powered by a four-cylinder, liquid cooled engine that produces a power take off rating of 44 horsepower, and an overall horsepower rating of 67.8. This Ford motor supplies power to the wheels through a “Select O Speed” transmission consisting of eight forward speeds and two reverse gears.
The displacement of the original motor is 172 cubic inches with a compression ratio of 7.5:1 and a bore/stroke of 3.9 inches by 3.6 inches. Later engine configurations included the LP gasoline-powered, 172-cubic-inch four-cylinder motor with a compression ratio of 8.65:1, as well as a four-cylinder diesel fuel engine that ran a 16.8:1 compression ratio. All three engine variations were rated at 2200 RPM with an idle speed of 450 RPM and required 5 quarts of oil and 15 quarts of coolant to keep things running smoothly.
Transmission variations include an over/under four-speed consisting of 12 forward gears and three reverse gears. Additional transmissions include a four-speed and five-speed manual, each with one reverse gear. The Powermaster also runs an open hydraulics system equipped with one standard valve. This tractor weighed in at 3,300 lbs, and was supported by 6-inch by 16-inch tires in the front, and 12-inch by 28-inch tires in the rear. The Ford 801 Powermaster was produced from 1958 to 1962 at the Ford factory in Dearborn, Michigan.
