How Does Someone Get a Foul Odor Out of Leather Sandals?
There are several ways to get the stinky smell out of leather sandals which often incorporate the use of everyday household items, such as baking soda or hydrogen peroxide, to help absorb the odors. Sometimes even just placing the sandals in direct sunlight for a day can make a difference. Most leather sandals start to smell with the passage of time and through constant use due to the accumulation of dead skin cells and foot sweat.
There are several techniques that may be used to get the foul odors out of leather sandals.
Sunlight
Placing the offending sandals under direct sunlight will help get rid of some stench emanating from the sandals. While this may not completely get rid of the odor, it can complement the other suggested techniques below.
Baking soda
Baking soda is one of the best household items at absorbing foul odors. Place the sandals along with a half a cup of baking soda in a resealable plastic bag and shake vigorously. Leave for at least a day to let the baking soda absorb the odors.
White vinegar
Mix two parts water with one part vinegar in a container large enough to contain the sandals. Soak the sandals in the solutions for at least three hours then place under direct sunlight to dry.
Hydrogen peroxide
Mix one part hydrogen peroxide with five parts water and soak the sandals in the solution for at least three hours. This will kill the odor-causing bacteria deep within the sandals. Place under direct sunlight to dry.
Enzyme cleaners
Enzyme-based cleaners are often used for pet stains and odors. Soak the sandals for at least three hours in the enzyme cleaners then place under direct sunlight to dry.
