In the United States system of measurement, 6 tablespoons are equivalent to 3/8 of a cup. According to this rule, there are 16 tablespoons in a full cup measure. The English measurement system is comprised of teaspoons, tablespoons, cups and pints.

The United States is one of only three countries that use this form of measurement. Apart from Liberia and Myanmar, the rest of the world uses the European system of measurement or the metric system. Meters, grams and liters are units of measurement in the metric system. Compared to U.S. measurements, 1 metric tablespoon is the same as 15 milliliters (ml). A full U.S. cup is equivalent to 250 ml.
