What Are the Side Effects of Dinintel?
Potential side effects of using Dinintel and similar medications include restlessness, nervousness, irritability and insomnia. While these symptoms vary in severity from patient to patient and are generally not serious or life-threatening, they are sometimes severe enough to cause patients to stop taking the medication. Patients taking Dinintel may test positive in drug screenings since the drug is metabolized by the body into amphetamine before excretion through the urine.
Dinintel is one of several brand names for clobenzorex, which is an anorectic, or appetite-suppressing, drug used for weight management purposes. It acts through chemical interactions with the satiety center of the hypothalamus to produce anorexia, which is a lack of appetite; this differs from the condition anorexia nervosa, which is an eating disorder. Because most anorectic drugs relate either directly or indirectly to the stimulant amphetamine, these drugs also act to increase physical activity.
Dinintel may also impact fat and carbohydrate metabolism, but this is considered to be a secondary function. Dinintel and other drugs classified in the anorectic family tend to lose effectiveness over time, sometimes after only a few months. As of 2014, it is still considered to be an effective tool for weight loss, however, particularly in cases where patients have already changed their eating and lifestyle habits but have reached a plateau in their weight loss.
