Where Is “this, Too, Shall Pass” in the Bible?
“This, too, shall pass” does not appear in any translation of the Bible that is available in modern times. There are several possible origins of the phrase. Some attribute it to King Solomon, others believe it comes from a fable by Persian Sufi poets and still others think it stems from an old English poem by Deor.
The King James version of the Bible contains a verse that is similar in meaning to “this, too, shall pass” in 2 Corinthians 4:17-18. It reads: “For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.”
