How Do You Separate Food Coloring From Water?

To separate food coloring from water, take a piece of paper and allow the water and food coloring mix on to a piece of paper, as the colored ink will move at a different speed along the paper in comparison to the water, reports the University of Minnesota. However, the mixture of food coloring and water is difficult to separate any other way.
Food coloring is often mixed with water for a simple children's experiment where oil is added. Children are able to watch the way that the food coloring drop interacts with both the water and the oil in order to learn about the density of both liquids.
