The Secure Digital, or SD, card slot is located on various electronic devices, including cell phones, video game consoles and cameras. SD slots house SD memory cards, which are primarily used to store and transfer data.
SD cards are available in microSD or standard SD format. MicroSD cards are smaller than standard SD cards. Devices that use SD cards generally state the format with which the device is compatible. With either format, the amount of storage available is displayed on the front of each SD card. MP3, AVI, JPEG and GIF are just a few of the types of file formats commonly stored on SD cards.
