A scam phone number list is a list of phone numbers that are associated with known scams. The government and several other companies manage this type of list and provide them to consumers as a public service.
The government also provides a National Do Not Call Registry. This list prohibits many unsolicited calls. Individuals must elect to be included on this list and visit donotcall.gov to register.
Scams often involve offers where the caller says that the recipient has been selected or has won a prize. They sometimes try to acquire credit card information and other personal information. Scams are often associated with travel, loans, investment opportunities or charities.
