What Is a Scam Involving a $1,000 Gift Card to Walmart?

Walmart $1,000 gift card offers advertised through Twitter, Facebook, emails or text messages are scams that are designed to collect personal information, including credit card numbers. The offers in emails and on social media typically display the real Walmart logo to gain trust and get people to click the links.

One Facebook free gift card offer asks people to fill out surveys, and promises $1,000 Walmart gift cards for the effort. Walmart does not initiate complimentary $1,000 gift cards through electronic invitations, as of 2015. Walmart offers a $1,000 gift card sweepstakes to five winners every three months, but people can get the invitation to participate only on Walmart register receipts; all other offers people receive are scams.
