Some facts about Sammy Kershaw and Lorrie Morgan’s divorce are that Morgan filed for divorce in 2007 after a six-year marriage to Kershaw. Kershaw and Morgan’s divorce ended what was Kershaw’s fourth marriage and Morgan’s fifth marriage.
The divorce followed years of tumult in the couple’s relationship, including allegations of violence that resulted in a mutual restraining order in 2003. The couple reconciled after the restraining order and the marriage lasted until 2007. In an interview with CNN host Larry King, Morgan acknowledged multiple fights with Kershaw during the marriage. Morgan denied that drugs or alcohol played a role in the couple’s fights.
The couple’s divorce shuttered the doors of their Nashville restaurant called “HotChickens.com.” The divorce also ended the couple’s joint-singing ventures, including their duet “He Drinks Tequila.” Morgan filed her petition for divorce in the Sumner County Chancery Court in Nashville, Tennessee. In her divorce petition, Morgan cited irreconcilable differences as grounds for the divorce. Morgan asked that the court enforce the couple’s pre-nuptial agreement.
Kershaw initially announced his marriage to Morgan on April 12, 2001. This was the same day a court granted Kershaw a divorce from his then-wife Kim Kershaw. Sammy Kershaw became romantically involved with Morgan while still married to Kim Kershaw. Morgan acknowledged that the couple worked with their priest in an attempt to learn better coping skills and make their marriage work. Despite learning to physically go their separate ways during an argument, the counseling did not salvage the couple’s marriage.
