What’s a Requisition Number?

A requisition number is an identifier code that is used to reference a particular requisition, such as a job posting. Each requisition number is created to be unique based on variables such as job position and location.

A requisition number is uniquely identified with a job opening with specific characteristics. Some of the information associated with a particular requisition may include fiscal year, business unit, pay class, job type, pay grade and expected salary. In some cases, organizations format requisition numbers in a particular sequential order for reference. An example provided by UCLA uses the form “YYYYnnnn” for requisition numbers, where “YYYY” is the year and the “nnnn” is the sequence number of the job opening during the year.
