How Do You Get Rid of Red Wasps?

To get rid of red wasps, remove the nest or spray the nest with a combination of dish detergent and water. Commercial powders and sprays are also available to eliminate wasps.

The nest can be removed by waiting until dusk, and then placing a heavy-duty garbage bag over the nest. This method of removal is most efficient when the nest is located in an easily accessible area, such as on a low-hanging branch. Tie the bag closed, and wait for 24 hours before disposal to ensure the wasps aren’t accidentally released if the bag tears.

To eliminate red wasps with soap and water, add a cup of liquid dish detergent to 4 cups of hot water. Mix the solution thoroughly, and pour it into a hose end sprayer. Saturate the nest, paying special attention to the entrance. Place the nest in a heavy garbage bag after the wasps stop emerging.

To kill red wasps indoors, locate the nest and drill a hole near the area. Insert a commercial pesticide powder or spray at dusk, or contact an exterminator to complete the task. Wear appropriate clothing, such as a long-sleeved shirt, a hat and safety goggles, before treating any wasp infestation, and close off other areas of the home when treating nests indoors. If wasps are present but the nest cannot be located, contact a professional exterminator for assistance.
