How Do You Resolve an Issue With a Keyboard Typing the Wrong Characters?

To resolve issues with a keyboard typing wrong characters, press the Number Lock key if pressing letter keys results in numbers and symbols being typed, or select the appropriate language from the language bar if the keyboard symbols are mixed up. If these options fail, reinstall the keyboard drivers from the Device Manager.

To change the language, click on the language bar, and select the desired input language. If the language bar is not present in the taskbar, right-click on it, hover over the Toolbars option, and select the Language Bar option. Alternatively, access the Region and Language dialog box from the Control Panel, open the Keyboard and Language tab, click Change Keyboards, select a language from the drop-down menu, or click Add to install a new one. If you have multiple languages installed, toggle between them by holding the Control key and pressing Shift.

Access the Device Manager dialog box by opening the Start menu, right-clicking on Computer, selecting the Manage option from the context menu and clicking on Device Manager in the selection pane. Click on Keyboards to expand the menu, right-click on your keyboard, select Properties, and open the Drivers tab. Click the Uninstall button, and restart your computer once the process completes. After the operating system boots up, let it install the appropriate driver automatically, or perform the process manually if your keyboard features media controls and extra keys that require proprietary drivers.
