How Do You Reset the Oil Change Light on a 2009 Ford F150?
Once the oil has been changed in a Ford F150, if the oil change indicator light on the dash does not reset on its own, then the light should be manually turned off by resetting the oil life to 100 percent in the onboard computer’s setup menu. Resetting the oil life in the vehicle’s onboard computer will indicate to the vehicle that the oil has been replaced.
On a Ford F150, the oil change light does not always automatically turn off after the oil has been changed. Instead of bringing the vehicle in to have a diagnostics test performed, there is a simple way to reset the indicator light on the vehicles onboard computer.
- Insert the ignition key
- Navigate through the setup menu
- Reset the oil life to 100 percent
Insert the vehicle’s ignition key and turn it such that the dash lights turn on, but the engine does not ignite.
Hold down the select knob on the vehicle’s dashboard to scroll through the onboard computer’s setup menu. Hold the knob until the screen displays “Oil Life Percent Hold Reset=New.”
Hold the “Reset” button until the vehicle displays “Oil Life Set To 100 Percent.” This will recent the sensors, the timer, and the dash light for the oil. Turn off the ignition and then back on to ensure that the warning light on the dash has turned off.
