To remove melted plastic from an oven floor, freeze it with a bag of ice, and scrape it off with a putty knife or razor blade. This 30-minute procedure requires a bag of ice, a putty knife, a plastic bag, paper towels and oven cleaning spray.

  1. Prepare the oven

Verify that the oven is off and at room temperature. If it is a gas oven, turn off the gas supply. If you have a removable oven floor, slide it out, and place it on a flat work surface.

  2. Freeze the plastic

Place a large bag of ice over the melted plastic, and leave it there for 15 minutes. If the melted plastic deposit is extremely large, leave the ice on it for 30 minutes.

  3. Scrape off the plastic

Remove the ice bag. Scrape up the brittle plastic with a putty knife or razor blade. Gather the fragments, and put them in a garbage bag. If some plastic remains bonded to the oven floor, cover it with ice for an additional 15 minutes. Continue icing and scraping until all the plastic is gone.

  4. Wipe the oven floor

Spray oven cleaner on a folded paper towel, and wipe the oven floor. If it is a gas oven, turn the gas supply back on.
