Islam requires that women wear head coverings to send a message of godliness and purity to others. Many people who follow Islam believe that God requires women to cover their heads with scarves.
In the Islam religion, covering the women's hair is considered a religious act. Those who do not believe that using a headscarf is required often believe that it's preferred by their god.
Sufi Muslims, who worship a form of Islamic religion, believe that both men and women should wear headscarves. This religion is commonly found in Pakistan and India. Because of this, many men who follow this segment of Islam will wear skullcaps as they pray during rituals.
