What Is the Release Date and Plot of the Movie “Eldest”?
As of November 2015, 20th Century Fox has not announced plans to adapt “Eldest” into a movie. “Eldest” is the second novel in Christopher Paolini’s “Inheritance Cycle” fantasy series. Fox adapted the first book in the series, “Eragon,” into a movie of the same title in 2006. While “Eragon” performed well at the box office, it was largely a critical failure, and Fox has made no effort turn the movie into a series.
The novel “Eldest” follows the continuing adventures of Eragon and his dragon, Saphira. After they successfully defend a group of rebels from evil King Galbatorix, Eragon travels to the land of the elves to continue his training to become a Dragon Rider.
There are a total of four books in the “Inheritance Cycle”: “Eragon,” “Eldest,” “Brisinger” and “Inheritance.”
Paolini was reportedly grateful that “Eragon” received a movie treatment and says it helped increase interest in the “Inheritance Cycle.” However, while Paolini provided feedback on several aspects of the film, he states that the finished product represents a different version of the story than the one he wrote.
Paolini began writing the “Inheritance Cycle” when he was 15, and reviewers sometimes criticize the novels for their lack of originality and melodramatic descriptions. However, the books have sold well, with readers purchasing 489,500 copies of “Inheritance” the day it was released.
