Furniture falls under the manufacturing sector and includes the manufacturing of office and household furniture. EPA enforces the laws and regulations for furniture manufacturing. It enforces standards related to greenhouse gas reporting and hazardous air pollutants. It also assesses and regulates substances used as substitutes for ozone-depleting chemicals.
In addition, CPSC regulates the manufacturing of furniture painted with paints that contain lead. It also regulates goods, such as furniture, that contain wax. The entity uses the guidelines of Federal Hazardous Substances Act, or FHSA, to determine whether furniture manufacturers meet the minimum requirements.
