What Is a Recipe for Whoopie Pie Using Cake Mix?
Betty Crocker has a whoopie pie recipe that uses the brand’s SuperMoist devil’s food cake mix. Duncan Hines also has a whoopie pie recipe that uses the brand’s devil’s food or chocolate fudge cake mix.
To make the Betty Crocker version, heat the oven to 350 degrees and line cookie sheets with parchment paper. In a bowl, beat 1 box of devil’s food cake mix, 2/3 cup of water, 1/2 cup of vegetable oil, 3 eggs and 1 box of chocolate pudding mix. Pour the batter into a resealable gallon bag, cut off the corner and pipe the batter into 36 circles on the baking sheet. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes and then completely cool before topping half of the cookies with Betty Crocker’s Whipped Fluffy White Frosting. Top the cookies with the untopped cookies to complete the pies.
To make the Duncan Hines version, preheat the oven to 350 degrees and mix 1 box of devil’s food or chocolate fudge cake mix with 1 small box of chocolate pudding mix, 1/2 cup of flour, 1/3 cup of vegetable oil, 3 eggs and 1 cup of water. Spoon the batter onto a greased cookie sheet and cook for 15 minutes. Allow to cool completely; in the meantime, prepare the filling by mixing 1 cup each of shortening, confectioner’s sugar and marshmallow creme. Add 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla before filling the cookies to complete the pies.
